You just want to be happy, and politics is ruining that for you. I get it–sort of. As a grassroots activist, I’ve been fighting against Trump for almost a decade. I’m exhausted. My fellow activists are exhausted. We want to be happy too. But…
This is a moment in history where EVERYTHING is politics. Do you like books and value education? The Trump regime is banning books and destroying higher education. Care about the planet? Have you heard the EPA is only setting rules based on what industry wants and not human loss of life? Do you care about climate change? The Trump regime is killing green energy and demanding coal plants stay open. If you care about free and fair elections, well, do your research, cause that’s all in danger. Shall I go on about the justice department and corruption and pedophiles and attacks on NATO? Invading Greenland? Now there’s a recipe for WWIII.
I get it. You want to be happy. But, my friend, happiness is not going to come if Americans bury their heads in their blankies because they don’t want to hear about politics. Most of you want us activists to save the country for you. And we are trying. But we need you to pay attention, and at the very least, send a text to your representatives. Use Resistbot. It’s super easy. Type ‘”resist” to 50409 and follow the prompts. Easy-peasy and you can do it on the toilet. Your elected reps aren’t going to know how pissed off you are unless you tell them. That means you have to pay attention to <gasp!> politics.
Friends, I need you. The country needs you. We activists are busting our butts to save YOU. Help us! Show up at a rally. Call or text your reps. Vote in the midterms. Be educated and fight for your rights and the rights of others. BE GOOD.
My foreign friends are aghast at what is happening in America. They continually ask, “Why aren’t your fellow Americans doing something?” <Big sigh> Is it because we are too busy trying to be happy?
OK. So that was harsh. We all have to balance our lives so we can wake up to fight another day. Sometimes that means we have to walk away from the news for a bit. But just a bit. This moment is like 1938 in Nazi Germany. Ever hear of ICE? They are Trump’s SS. Think I’m being melodramatic? I wish I were!
Sometimes a moment calls for bravery. This is such a moment. I’m not asking you to storm the beaches of Normandy, just educate yourself. Pay attention to news sources and be on guard for bias. And please. Stop telling us frontline activists that you just want to be happy. We do too. Consider joining us.
