Water is critical to birds!

Try buying a bird bath and enjoy the spectacle! Birds love running water, so fountains and misters are particularly appreciated. For a cheap way to provide water, try filling the bottom saucers of large terra cotta pots. The birdbath does not need to be deep, in fact birds prefer shallower water. Ponds with varying depths are also ideal. Perches should be close to water (and should be shaded or partially shaded if possible). Biologist Jerry Davis recommends keeping water in the baths year round. Some specialty catalogues and bird stores carry birdbath heaters for folks who live in colder areas of the country.
